B. Operation

Advanced signal control system leading to effective traffic control of trunk roads

Improved traffic of trunk roads with a real-time signal control

Improved traffic by providing the drivers with real-time traffic conditions for each route.

Providing a real-time traffic information (normal, slow, congestion) with 4000 units of OBE and 37 sets of VMS for smooth traffic.l

Maintains the punctuality & operation information leading to enhanced usage rate /convenience.

  • Close operation monitoring by route (965 buses over 94 routes) and control system
  • Leading role in partial state-financed system / operation, schedule, and statistics
  • Enhanced user's convenience and usage rate, providing bus operation information based on BIS ( Bus Information Systems)

Provision of day-to-day information through ITS system aimed at improving living standard of the citizens.

Evaluation of ITS pilot projects

  • Gradual improvement of car speed: 13.3% on average
  • Average congestion rate at crossroads: Down 53.0%
  • Average congestion: 71.0 Sec(F) → 33.4sec (D) (down 37.6 sec)
  • Increase in bus ridership rate: 28.6% / 120 passengers per hour → 199 (up 79 people)
  • Decrease in traffic accident: 11.3% / 5,847 → 5,186 cases (down 661 cases)

  • Satisfaction with VMS :ordinary drivers 93.6%, taxi drivers 85.5%
  • Need for expanding the city bus system: supported by 75.5%

Evaluation of ITS pilot projects

  • Period: December 20, 2004 - January 8, 2005
  • Survey method: 250 people with ITS membership by e-mail
  • According to the report, generally satisfied with improvement in speed and time
  • Increase in traffic: 64.4% (significantly 30.0%, slightly 34.4%)
  • Improvement in speed: 42.0% (significantly 6.4%, slightly 35.6%)
  • Reduction in time: 44.4% (significantly 6.8%, slightly 37.6%)
