Traffic in Daejeon

  • Daejeon, with systematic traffic networks linked with major cities across the nation within 2 hours, is the nation's leading science and technology city as well as the traffic hub, providing core functions in the fields of administration, science and national defense. We will be building a human-centered safe traffic city where all the citizens and the visitors could enjoy convenient, safe and rapid transportation.
  • As of the end of 2006, the population reached 1,466,158 people with 521,234 cars duly registered. The length of the road totals 2,237km (including 556km under construction), a daily traffic on expressways, national highways and provincial highways was 393,232 and those traveling interstate highways (at 25 locations) marked 1,145,825 and an average car speed running 18 highways including Hanbat and Gyeryong (including section without ITS) recorded 23.2km/h, while the buses in operation in downtown Daejeon run as fast as 17.2km.
  • Amid growing needs for playing a role as support base and increasing trade with neighboring cities in line with construction of administrative complex city, structuring a comprehensive broad traffic network is increasingly emphasized.

Transforming Daejeon into nation's top safe traffic city

  • The projects aimed at expanding the traffic infrastructure, which includes expanding the Daejeon-centered broad traffic network and also structuring the stage 2 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
  • In addition, a campaign to pave the way for structuring an advanced traffic culture and order will be pushed in collaboration with existing traffic-related civic groups. To that end, "Traffic Safety Experience Training Center", which is expected to provide children and youth with a systematic education on traffic safety, will be built in EXPO Park for the first time in Korea.
  • Citizens' participation will be essential to transform Daejeon into nation's top traffic safety city with a human-centered traffic policy.
